SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association Central Body and the Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association organised a felicitation programme under the theme “Uncertain Stability” to honour the State Government for introducing the Structured Pay Framework aimed at improving service conditions and financial security of SSA and 4th teachers.
The event recognised what the associations described as a landmark and historic step by the government to enhance service protection and ensure financial stability for thousands of teachers across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed gratitude to the teaching community for their dedication and acknowledged their long struggle for improved service conditions. He said the decision to implement the new pay structure was the result of years of sustained efforts, consultations, and commitment by all stakeholders.
The Chief Minister highlighted that teachers had endured significant challenges and sacrifices over the years and noted that the government’s initiative was aimed at recognising their dignity and contributions while ensuring financial stability for their families. He added that although some issues remain, the government is committed to addressing them through continued dialogue.
He also thanked the Education Department, associations, and stakeholders for their role in bridging gaps between teachers and the government, stating that their patience and perseverance were crucial in achieving the outcome.
Emphasising the importance of education, he urged teachers and stakeholders to prioritise students’ welfare in all decisions, stating that meaningful transformation in the sector can only occur when the needs of children are placed first.
He reiterated that education remains a top priority for the government and reaffirmed its vision of placing Meghalaya among the top-performing states in the country.
The Chief Minister further assured that concerns related to leave structure, maternity benefits, loan facilities, and healthcare provisions raised by the teachers’ associations are being examined and would be addressed in consultation with all stakeholders.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Cabinet Ministers Sanbor Shullai and Timothy D Shira, MLA Dr C Lyngdoh, Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department Vinay Kumar Mantri, along with a large number of teachers, officials, and representatives from both associations.
