SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Health Department is awaiting critical input from service stakeholders regarding the future of the 108 emergency ambulance operations, while it continues to maintain full compliance with judicial mandates concerning environmental health concerns in Byrnihat.
Addressing the long-standing operational challenges faced by the 108 ambulance network, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla announced that the comprehensive assessment report commissioned by the government has been completed and submitted.
Following the administrative update—most notably the return of Ram Kumar as Director of the National Health Mission (NHM)—preliminary internal reviews have already been conducted. The department is now set to convene a joint meeting to present the study’s key findings to stakeholders.
According to official sources, the state will propose a set of structured recommendations based on the assessment, leaving the final decision on whether to accept or decline the terms up to the service providers. The department is working towards a prompt resolution.

Health Minister Shylla clarified that the department has not received any written complaints or formal grievances from local residents or organizations on the matter, maintaining that official intervention depends on formal representations.
Health Secretary Joram Beda confirmed that the environmental health issue in Byrnihat remains sub-judice, with the court having taken formal cognizance and issued specific directives to the health administration—which the department is currently following in full compliance.
