SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has assured that the Meghalaya government is closely monitoring concerns over alleged forced enrolment of Langpih residents under Assam’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Census.

While the issue has not yet reached his direct attention, Sangma confirmed that the Political Department and the local administration are actively engaged and that the matter has been flagged to the Commissioner.

Sangma stated that the government is in constant touch with ground realities and will coordinate with Assam counterparts if Langpih residents face genuine hardships.

He also announced that a regional Border Committee will soon be formed to address territorial and administrative issues in the area.

The Chief Minister’s response follows a recent meeting between Langpih residents and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, where villagers reported pressure from Assam authorities to register as Assam residents, raising fears over their administrative status.
