SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has strongly condemned the recent assault incident at Malviya Nagar in Delhi involving residents of Arunachal Pradesh, terming such acts “completely unacceptable under any circumstances.”

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the language used and the behaviour displayed during the incident. He stated that such conduct cannot be tolerated in a society that aspires toward progress and development.

“As a state and as a nation striving for growth, such actions only push society backward,” Sangma said, emphasizing that respect and dignity for all citizens must remain non-negotiable.

Highlighting India’s diversity, the Chief Minister underlined the importance of mutual respect among people from different regions, particularly those from the Northeast. He noted that unity and harmony are essential pillars for national development and warned that without mutual respect, true progress cannot be achieved.

Sangma further urged leaders and community representatives in Delhi to take proactive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also appealed to citizens—especially those from the Northeast—to raise their voices peacefully, stand in solidarity with one another, and promote understanding rather than anger.

Assuring appropriate action, the Chief Minister stated that the Meghalaya government would engage with the concerned authorities to address the issue and ensure that necessary steps are taken.

The incident has once again sparked concerns about the safety and dignity of Northeastern residents living outside the region, prompting renewed calls for greater awareness, sensitivity, and inclusive dialogue across the country.
