Meghalaya Court Grants Bail to Sonam in Husband Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case

The grim saga began on May 21, 2025, when Raja and Sonam arrived in Shillong before proceeding to the scenic locales of Sohra.

SHILLONG: In a significant legal development, the District Session Court today granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the high-profile murder case of her husband, Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

This release comes after Sonam spent approximately ten months in custody following her arrest in connection with the crime that occurred in May last year. According to police authorities, Sonam is the only individual to be granted bail at this stage, while the other co-accused remain incarcerated as their legal bids for release have not yet been successful.

The investigation into the cold-blooded murder has seen intense activity recently, particularly after the police submitted an exhaustive 790-page chargesheet before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in the Sohra Sub-Division. The comprehensive document names five individuals as conspirators in the crime, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, her associate Raj Kushwaha, and three alleged contract killers identified as Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. The chargesheet details a complex plot where the accused allegedly conspired together to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi.

The grim saga began on May 21, 2025, when Raja and Sonam arrived in Shillong for a vacation before proceeding to the scenic locales of Sohra. The trip took a dark turn on May 26, when the couple was reported missing, prompting a massive search operation by the authorities across the Sohra region.

The mystery ended tragically on June 2, when Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge at Arliang Riat near the famous Wei Sawdong falls. The discovery of the body shifted the missing person case into a murder investigation, eventually leading to the arrests of the five suspects in a case that has gripped the nation’s attention.
