SHILLONG: In a major push to strengthen law and order across the state, the Government of Meghalaya is set to complete a large-scale recruitment drive that will see 3,000 new personnel inducted into the Meghalaya Police by the first or second week of February 2026.
The recruitment initiative, one of the largest in recent years, is aimed at filling critical vacancies across police stations, outposts, and battalions in all districts of the state, significantly bolstering the overall security framework.
Commissioner & Secretary, Home (Police) Department, Cyril V. D. Diengdoh, said the recruitment process has entered its final stage. Personal interviews are currently underway in Shillong for the Eastern Range and Tura for the Western Range.
He informed that 76 newly appointed Sub-Inspectors have already been inducted and are presently undergoing training at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA). The remaining recruitments will largely focus on strengthening the Armed and Unarmed branches of the Constabulary.
The department aims to issue all 3,000 appointment letters by early February 2026, after which the recruits will be deployed in phases based on operational requirements.
Diengdoh said the induction of new personnel is expected to significantly address long-standing manpower shortages, enable faster and more efficient criminal investigations, and enhance police visibility on the ground to maintain public order.
He added that a substantial number of recruits will be deployed to strengthen specialised units, including the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), as part of the state’s intensified fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.
On deployment strategy, Diengdoh clarified that postings will be carried out strictly based on district-wise and unit-wise requirements, with the Director General of Police (DGP) overseeing continuous monitoring to ensure optimal utilisation of manpower.
The mega recruitment drive is being seen as a historic step towards building a stronger, more responsive police force capable of addressing Meghalaya’s evolving security challenges.
