SHILLONG: A viral video circulating today shows two men being assaulted and tied up by a mob in Mylliem, following allegations of car stereo theft.
According to police, the incident occurred around 5:00 AM on August 23 near Mylliem, where a crowd had apprehended three individuals: Albert Marbaniang (26), his wife Liabet Kharmawlong (27), and Banshan Kurbah (25).
The trio was accused of attempting to steal a car music system.
Arriving at the scene, police found the two male suspects being beaten and dragged by residents, who were also attempting to vandalize a white Maruti car (ML 05 T 9837).
Officers intervened, stopped the assault, and took the suspects into custody.

All three were taken to Pomlum CHC for a medical check-up, and the vehicle was seized and brought to Mawngap Police Station.
A local resident filed a complaint alleging that the suspects had broken into his car (ML 05 Y 2364) and stolen its music system.
He reported hearing his vehicle’s central lock alert around 4:10 AM and witnessing one suspect flee on foot, while the other two drove away in the Maruti. Residents pursued and intercepted the suspects at 11mer, Mylliem.
Police documented the scene and instructed the complainant to file a formal FIR at Mawngap Police Station. A full investigation is underway.
