SHILLONG: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, BDR Tiwari, held a meeting with various political parties in the state on Friday to brief them on the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. During the meeting, the CEO urged the political parties to immediately appoint their booth-level agents to assist and cooperate in the exercise.
This meeting was convened following the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) announcement regarding the third phase of the SIR for the remaining states and Union Territories, which now includes Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the CEO shared that the political parties were thoroughly briefed on the specific dates and operational procedures of the new enrollment drive. He added that all queries and doubts raised by the representatives of the political parties were successfully clarified and resolved during the interaction.
The Election department strongly emphasized the need for political parties to deploy booth-level agents, highlighting that these individuals play a crucial grassroots role by working closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across all localities and polling stations.
According to the CEO, the presence of these booth-level agents will ensure greater transparency in the process. He reiterated that the Election department is fully committed to ensuring a free, fair, and clean revision of the electoral rolls in the state.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise in Meghalaya is scheduled to begin on the ground with house-to-house visits by the BLOs starting on June 30, and the entire process will conclude with the publication of the final electoral roll on October 7, 2026.
