SHILLONG: The President of the United Democratic Party (UDP), who is also a cabinet minister, Metbah Lyngdoh, has asserted that it is the responsibility of every MLA to ensure the 100% honest implementation of the MLA Scheme.

Lyngdoh made this statement to clarify his position regarding the demand by the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) President, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit (who is also the MLA for Nongkrem constituency), for an inquiry into the implementation of the MLA scheme across Meghalaya.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said that right from his early days as the MLA for Mairang constituency, he has always ensured that the MLA scheme is implemented with 100% integrity.

The UDP president admitted that in public work, it is impossible for everything to be perfect. “It’s just that there might be minor errors here and there, but there should be no intention to misuse funds or snatch away the public’s share,” he said.

”I am not claiming to be perfect, and no other MLA can claim to be entirely perfect because ultimately, we have to rely on the suggestions of those we work with, including Rangbah Shnongs (village heads), leaders in various villages, women’s organizations, youth groups, and so on. However, as leaders who provide assistance to the public, we must ensure that we distribute it honestly,” he added.

When asked about the necessity of a dedicated inquiry team for the MLA scheme, Lyngdoh stated, “There is no opposition to an inquiry if there is any doubt or suspicion regarding the scheme’s implementation.”
