SHILLONG: Two North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) students who were injured after being hit by a vehicle near the university’s second gate are showing significant signs of recovery following medical treatment. One of the victims, Stephanie Shadap, was discharged from Nazareth Hospital yesterday.

Speaking to reporters, Stephanie’s father, Niwel Dhar, said doctors have allowed her to return home but advised at least six months of rest and restricted physical activity. He added that although a blood clot remains in her head, doctors have recommended medication for now and will review the need for surgery later if required.

Dhar expressed gratitude to the medical team at Nazareth Hospital for their dedicated care, saying that through their efforts and by God’s grace, Stephanie has been able to recover. He also thanked various groups—including the RSSO team led by Teiborlang Pathaw and the Don Bosco alumni group—for their support and encouragement. He acknowledged the RSSO’s initiative in seeking the removal of the security guard involved in the incident.

Phlening Khongthaw, a relative of the second victim, Daritngen Ponduhkhei, informed that she has been steadily gaining strength. Doctors have successfully completed the second phase of her operation, and her condition continues to improve.

The family is hopeful and thankful for the medical care provided, noting that Daritngen has regained the ability to speak, though she still experiences physical discomfort.

Khongthaw urged the government to fulfil the commitments made to the victims, expressing confidence that the promises will be honoured.
