SHILLONG: A new motorable road aimed at improving urban connectivity in the Rilbong area was officially inaugurated on Saturday by Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai.
The project, executed by the Public Works Department (Roads) under the Government of Meghalaya, involves the construction of a key stretch connecting the main entrance gate of the Art and Culture Complex at Rilbong to the road linking Rilbong Community Hall and the Umshyrpi Bridge PWD road.
Sanctioned under the PWD Special Plan Assistance (SPA) Scheme 2023–24, the project has been completed at a cost of ₹1.98 crore. The new road is expected to significantly ease vehicular movement and improve accessibility for residents across the locality.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent local leaders, including Rangbah Shnong Glanding Lyngdoh and Secretary Shnong Hamsaya Chen, along with members of the Dorbar Shnong of Kench’s Trace, Oxford, and Rilbong.
Speaking on the occasion, Shullai highlighted the importance of strengthening urban infrastructure, noting that such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the overall quality of life for citizens.
