Nongrah Murder Case: Accused Kennedy Khongsit Remanded to 8 Days Police Custody in Killing of 7-yr-old Boy

SHILLONG: In a significant development in the murder case of seven-year-old boy, the East Khasi Hills police on Thursday produced the prime accused, 32-year-old Kennedy Khongsit, before a local court in Shillong.

Prior to his court appearance, the accused was taken to Civil Hospital, Shillong, where he underwent a routine medical examination in accordance with legal procedures. He was subsequently produced before the District and Sessions Judge, Shillong.

After hearing the matter, the court remanded Khongsit to eight days of police custody to enable further investigation into the case.

The 7-yr-old boy from Nongrah, Lummyrboh, was allegedly murdered by the accused, who was known to the victim and lived in close proximity. The revelation that the accused was familiar to the child and his family has intensified concerns within the community.

The case dates back to October 8, 2025, when the child went missing from his residence in the evening. A search operation was immediately launched, and his body was recovered the following day from a roadside area in the Mawpat forest.

The brutal nature of the crime had sent shockwaves across the locality, prompting sustained efforts by the police over several months to track down and apprehend the accused.
