MAWLYNDEP (Ri Bhoi): Mawlyndep village in Ri Bhoi district has recorded significant developmental progress under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) Phase-II, with investments worth over ₹50 crore mobilised through a convergence of multiple government schemes and departments.
The village, adopted by Rajya Sabha MP W. R. Kharlukhi, has benefited from a holistic development approach aimed at transforming it into a model village through sustainable and inclusive growth.
According to officials, a total investment of approximately ₹50.90 crore has been channelled into the village. Major contributions include ₹2.9 crore from the Fisheries Department and ₹7.89 crore from the Public Health Engineering Department, alongside additional funding from departments such as Tourism, Public Works, and power utilities, as well as schemes like MGNREGS, PMAY-G, and NRLM.
These initiatives have supported a wide range of sectors, including livelihood generation, housing, drinking water supply, rural infrastructure, electrification, and community development.
As part of the latest phase of development works, Dr. Kharlukhi inaugurated several key projects, including a Community Biofloc Fish Farming Unit established by the Fisheries Department, a Livelihood Service Centre, a CC road, and two zonal water reservoirs constructed under MGNREGS. A guest house built through MPLADS and a renovated school building at Mawlyndep Secondary School were also inaugurated.

The biofloc fish farming project, supported under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission 2.0, is being implemented as a pilot initiative offering an end-to-end solution across the fisheries value chain, from production to post-harvest marketing.
In addition, foundation stones were laid for several internal road projects in Mawlyndep and nearby villages, aimed at enhancing connectivity and facilitating socio-economic development in the region.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA Celestine Lyngdoh, along with officials from various departments, representatives of Self-Help Groups, and members of the local community.
Officials said the inauguration of these projects marks a significant milestone in Mawlyndep’s development journey and highlights the success of the convergence model under SAGY-II, reaffirming the commitment to improving rural livelihoods and infrastructure.
