SHILLONG: In a significant development in the investigation into the murder of Eilang Phawa, the East Khasi Hills district police on Wednesday conducted a detailed crime scene reconstruction with the accused, Kennedy Khongsit, to establish the sequence of events leading to the crime.

Kennedy Khongsit was taken by the police to the location where the body of Eilang Phawa was recovered.

In the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joyti Wahlang, senior police officials, personnel from the Special Operations Team (SOT), and the Forensic Crime Scene unit, the accused was asked to demonstrate how he allegedly carried out the murder. The exercise was aimed at gathering crucial evidence and corroborating statements recorded during the course of the investigation.

As part of the reconstruction process, the police also escorted the accused to a shop where he had reportedly taken the victim prior to the incident.

Investigators sought to piece together the movements of both the accused and the victim in the hours leading up to the crime. He was further taken to multiple locations that he had visited with the victim, where he was instructed to explain the events that transpired at each site.

The police team also brought the accused to his residence at Nongrah Lummarboh, which is believed to be one of the key locations linked to the case. The victim had reportedly been taken there by the accused before he allegedly murdered her.

The reconstruction was carried out to obtain a clear and chronological account of the accused’s movements and actions, from the beginning of his interaction with the victim up to the time of the murder. The exercise is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the case by verifying the accused’s version of events with physical evidence and witness accounts.

It may be recalled that the East Khasi Hills district police had earlier arrested Kennedy Khongsit in connection with the murder of a minor boy, whose body was recovered from a forested area in Mawpat.

Subsequently, in a separate development, the police recovered the body of Eilang Phawa on 20th March 2026 from a stream in Nongrah. During the course of the investigation, suspicion emerged regarding the possible involvement of the same accused in this case as well.

Police are continuing to interrogate Kennedy Khongsit to ascertain his role and establish any links between the two incidents. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
