Shillong Traffic Police, SBI General Distribute Helmets to Students in Road Safety Drive

The initiative underscores the importance of community-driven efforts in ensuring safer roads for its citizens

SHILLONG: In a proactive step towards promoting road safety among young commuters, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP), in collaboration with SBI General Insurance, organised a road safety awareness drive in the Dhankheti area on Tuesday.

As part of the initiative, 100 high-quality helmets were distributed to school students, encouraging them to adopt safe commuting practices from an early age.

Officials stated that the programme aims to instil a culture of road safety among children, particularly those who travel as pillion riders or use bicycles for their daily commute.

  • Early Awareness: The initiative focuses on building safety habits among students from a young age.

  • Injury Prevention: Helmets significantly reduce the risk of serious injuries during road accidents.

  • Long-Term Impact: Authorities hope the campaign will promote responsible behaviour and road discipline across the city.

“We want our youth to understand that wearing a helmet isn’t just a rule—it is a vital measure that protects their lives and future,” an official said during the event.

The initiative underscores the importance of community-driven efforts in ensuring safer roads, with authorities urging citizens to make safety a daily habit rather than just a guideline.
