Shillong Woman Dies After Falling From Car; Boyfriend Arrested and Released on Bail

Probe is underway to ascertain whether it was a random accident or a deliberate act where she was pushed or thrown from the car.

​SHILLONG: ​The Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills District, Vivek Syiem, confirmed today the details surrounding the death of a 26-year-old woman, Phidarisha jyrwa, who passed away on November 13, days after allegedly falling from a moving car.

​The incident occurred on November 7 when Jyrwa had attended a wedding reception at All Saints’ Hall in Shillong. According to reports, around 11:50 PM, her boyfriend arrived to pick her up. The couple was traveling toward Khyndailad in an Alto K10 car, which was heading from the IGP area.

​However, at the DC Junction, the victim was found to have fallen from the vehicle she was occupying.

​The young woman suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to Woodland Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on November 13.

​An FIR was lodged by the victim’s brother on November 10. Police registered a case and subsequently arrested the driver of the vehicle (the victim’s boyfriend) and seized the car. The accused has since been released on bail.

​The post-mortem report confirmed that the cause of death was severe head injuries.

​Police stated that the investigation is actively progressing to ascertain the exact circumstances of the death—whether it was a random accident or a deliberate act where she was pushed or thrown from the car.

​The accused is currently undergoing interrogation, and authorities are diligently collecting evidence, including CCTV footage from the area. He has been booked under sections 281 BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita), 125, and 185 MV Act (Motor Vehicles Act).
