SHILLONG: A tense situation unfolded during a rally organized by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to commemorate Khasi National Awakening Day (Sngi Kyrsiew Ri), when an incident of stone-pelting broke out near Laban Police Station.

According to eyewitnesses, including local women present at the scene, the altercation began when individuals from a nearby residence allegedly initiated stone-pelting at the rally participants. The KSU members reportedly retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of stones between the two sides.

The confrontation resulted in damage to the glass windows of the house, raising concerns among residents and participants alike. The situation threatened to escalate into a larger disturbance.

However, timely and vigilant intervention by KSU leaders helped bring the situation under control. Their efforts ensured that the rally proceeded without further disruption and prevented any untoward escalation.

Authorities are expected to look into the incident to ascertain the sequence of events and maintain law and order in the area.
