SHILLONG: In an effort to resolve ongoing inter-state transport disruptions, senior officials from Assam and Meghalaya will meet on September 10 for high-level talks to find a lasting solution for commercial vehicle operators facing challenges along the shared border.
The move follows repeated complaints from Meghalaya-registered tourist taxi drivers about harassment, security risks, and operational barriers when traveling into Assam, especially towards Guwahati.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister for Transport, Sniawbhalang Dhar, announced that representatives from tourist taxi associations and the Transport Commissioners from both states will participate in the negotiations.
This breakthrough follows a comprehensive meeting in Shillong, which brought together administrative, law enforcement, and transport authorities, as well as union leaders from both states.
