SHILLONG: Villagers of Umthli under Pynursla on Friday apprehended three persons on suspicion of being involved in motorcycle theft and handed them over to the police.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9:30 am when locals intercepted the suspects and informed Pynursla Police Station. A police team rushed to the spot and formally arrested the trio.
Later in the day, an FIR was lodged by Rahul Thapa of Goenka Compound, stating that he had parked his motorcycle (Yamaha MT-15, Registration No. ML 05 AC 4622) in the compound’s parking lot. However, at around 11:30 am, he discovered that the vehicle was missing.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Sadar Police Station, Shillong vide Case No. 42(02)2026 under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The three accused have been identified as — Pyndapborlang Khonglah (26), resident of Pynursla, Wah Pathaw; Bamkerlang Surong (22), resident of Sohlong, Wahkdait and Iohborlang Mylliem Umlong (36), resident of Lawmei, Khliehshnong.
Police recovered the several items from the accused including a Hyundai i10 Nios (ML 05Z 5650), Alto 800 (ML 05N 4146 – Tourist Vehicle), one Vivo mobile phone, one Samsung mobile phone and one Poco mobile phone.
Police said investigations are underway to ascertain the involvement of the arrested persons in other cases of two-wheeler theft in the district and neighbouring areas.
Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
