The Makeover Begins: 60 Localities Get a Boost as CM Charts Tura’s Transformation

The top three Best Performing Localities of Tura were awarded ₹1 lakh each, while the remaining localities received ₹70,000.

TURA: Tura town in West Garo Hills district took a step closer to its transformation journey today as Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handed over cheques to 60 localities under the Tura Beautification Project. The programme, organised by the Tura Municipal Board at the District Auditorium, provided a glimpse into the town’s evolving future.

Addressing the audience, the Chief Minister underscored a shared vision that binds the government, administration, municipalities, and communities together. “We cannot do it alone,” he said, emphasising that lasting change requires the involvement and ownership of every resident. “The objective is simple—transform Tura into a cleaner, greener and more beautiful town. Your participation makes that possible.”

The event became more than a cheque distribution ceremony when the Chief Minister presented a detailed walkthrough of the major projects shaping the future of Tura. From the upcoming additional Secretariat and the revamped Tura Super Market, to the ambitious P.A. Sangma Integrated Sports Complex, Tura Convention Centre, Pelga Tourism Circuit, and the Tura Youth and Cultural Centre now at the conceptual stage—each project, he explained, is part of a larger narrative of urban renewal. He also highlighted initiatives to strengthen Tura’s water supply, expand street-lighting and CCTV installation, and improve the city’s overall infrastructure.

In his address, the chief minister made a clarion call for a greener public transportation. “I am very keen on making public transportation green before the National Games 2027,” he said, hinting at the possible introduction of electrical autos. He assured that the government would support any auto owner ready to shift to electric mobility.

The Chief Minister also spoke about developing children’s parks and green zones where families, senior citizens, and young people can reconnect with outdoor life. “These spaces will be funded and developed by the government, then handed over to communities for management,” he said, inviting localities with available land to come forward.

The gathering was also urged to take part in the ongoing Paint My City Campaign, envisioned as a community-driven movement to rejuvenate Tura’s visual identity. “When we work together, we will see Tura transform into a beautiful, green, sustainable and vibrant place,” he concluded.

At the event, the top three Best Performing Localities were awarded ₹1 lakh each, while the remaining localities received ₹70,000. The programme saw participation from senior officials of the district administration, Tura Municipal Board, and members of locality development committees—marking a united front in Tura’s transformation story.
