SHILLONG: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Prestone Tynsong has formally raised the issue of persistent waterlogging on the National Highway at Jorabat with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Tynsong clarified that the highway is under the direct control of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), not the State PWD, but urged the central ministry to take swift action to alleviate the ongoing hardship faced by commuters in the Ri-Bhoi district.
Tynsong criticized the initial execution of the project, noting that NHAI failed to conduct an adequate feasibility and technical survey of the area’s terrain and topography prior to construction.

As a result, even light rainfall leads to severe flooding and disruption for motorists.
Despite the highway being a central project, Tynsong took proactive steps by meeting with NHAI officials and directing them to conduct a thorough re-survey and implement immediate corrective measures to address the problem.
