SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has suspended three sitting MLAs—Kyrmen Shylla (Khliehriat), Ollan Sing Suiñ (Mawsynram), and Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah (Mawphlang)—after they publicly announced plans to leave the party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
UDP President and Minister Metbah Lyngdoh said the three legislators organized public meetings in their constituencies and made statements to the media confirming their intent to resign from the UDP.
The party initially issued show-cause letters and summoned the MLAs to appear before the State Parliamentary Board on September 23 to explain their actions.

All three MLAs failed to appear before the Board, violating party rules and the UDP constitution.
As a result, the party resolved to suspend them with immediate effect.
The suspension comes amid reports that a total of eight UDP MLAs had traveled to New Delhi to join the BJP, with these three among those who openly confirmed their intentions.
