SHILLONG: United Democratic Party (UDP) General Secretary Titostarwell Chyne has announced that the party may issue Show Cause Notices to eight MLAs whose names have surfaced in connection with potential plans to leave the UDP and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chyne said a meeting of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and State Parliamentary Board (SPB) will soon be convened to decide on appropriate action.

Chyne clarified that the decision to suspend or discipline MLAs cannot be made unilaterally and must be determined collectively by the party.

While current reports remain speculative—since no official resignations have been submitted and the MLAs have not formally joined another party—Chyne confirmed that they remain UDP members for now.

He emphasized that any decision by an MLA to join the BJP is a personal choice, not a reflection of disunity or dissatisfaction within the UDP.

Chyne noted that the party has weathered defections before and has consistently rebuilt its strength.

The eight UDP MLAs named in the speculation are Lahkmen Rymbui, Kyrmen Shylla, Balajied Kupar Synrem, Shynshar Kupar L. Thabah, Pius Marweiñ, Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah, Mayraldborn Syiem, and Ollan Sing Suiñ.
