VPP Defers Secretariat Gherao, Public Rally Until State Examinations Conclude

The VPP said that the agitation will now take place only after the students finish all their examinations

SHILLONG: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has officially decided to temporarily put on hold its scheduled public agitation program, which included a massive public rally and the picketing of the Meghalaya Secretariat in Shillong.

The regional party announced that the agitation will remain suspended until all ongoing school and college examinations across the state are fully completed, emphasizing that the academic progress and future of the student community must not suffer any disruption due to political protests.

This crucial decision was finalized during a recently concluded meeting of the VPP’s State Executive Committee.

The party leadership took this step following serious concerns raised by students, guardians, and well-wishers of the state regarding the severe inconveniences and academic disturbances that a large-scale public gathering could cause, particularly since highly important examinations are currently underway throughout Meghalaya.

According to an official statement released by the VPP, the State Executive Committee resolved during its meeting to reschedule the public march and the surrounding of the Secretariat building in Shillong to a later date.

The agitation will now take place only after the students finish all their examinations, thereby ensuring that educational activities and student movement can proceed smoothly without any logistical or administrative hindrances.

The party statement further highlighted that this postponement reflects the VPP’s deep concern and long-term commitment to the welfare and future of the students who are currently appearing for various crucial examinations across the state of Meghalaya.
