SHILLONG: The Election Committee of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has formally submitted its recommendation to the party’s State Executive Committee, proposing Dr. Batskhem Myrboh as the official candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election from the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.
The by-election has been necessitated following the untimely demise of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Ricky A. J. Syngkon, who passed away on February 19, 2026.
His passing left the parliamentary seat vacant, prompting preparations for a by-poll in the constituency.
In a statement by VPP, the Election Committee finalized its recommendation after internal consultations and deliberations. The proposal will now be placed before the State Executive Committee for formal approval, which is expected in the coming days.
The 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency is one of the key Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, and the upcoming by-election is anticipated to draw significant political attention across the state.
With the recommendation of Dr. Batskhem Myrboh, the VPP has taken its first major step toward contesting the seat and continuing its political presence in the region.
