SHILLONG: National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) National President Nickey Nongkhlaw has strongly condemned the assault on a student from Tripura that led to his death in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and urged the state government to take immediate and decisive measures to ensure the safety and security of students from the North Eastern region studying outside their home states.
Expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased, Angle Chakma, Nongkhlaw said such incidents are not isolated and have occurred repeatedly over the years, particularly targeting youths from the North East. He described the incident as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
The NPYF has unequivocally denounced the assault and expressed hope that such acts of violence will not be repeated in the future. Nongkhlaw informed that he has written to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, urging the state government to treat the matter with utmost seriousness, ensure the arrest of all those involved, and allow the law to take its full course.
He further stated that attacks against people from the North Eastern region reflect a lack of awareness and understanding, emphasizing that citizens from the region are an integral part of the country. Nongkhlaw called upon the authorities to promote greater dialogue and awareness to bridge the understanding gap and prevent such incidents in the future.
