SHILLONG: Former Health Minister and MLA A. L. Hek today met Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi to discuss the alarming rise in cancer cases in Meghalaya and the Northeast region as a whole.
During the meeting, Hek apprised the Union Minister about the growing concern over the increasing of cancer in the state and stressed the need for urgent intervention and support from the Centre to strengthen healthcare facilities and cancer treatment services in the region.
Hek also expressed his gratitude to Meghalaya Health Minister W. Shylla for writing to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the matter.
According to Hek, the Union Health Minister assured full support and positive action in addressing the issue and extending necessary assistance to Meghalaya and the Northeast in tackling the rising cancer burden.
