SHILLONG: The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) has expressed ongoing dissatisfaction following a recent meeting with the Meghalaya Transport Minister and officials over their demand to ban out-of-state commercial vehicles from directly accessing tourist destinations.
The government stopped short of giving a firm commitment on the restriction, leaving the core issue unresolved.
AKMTTA General Secretary Balajied Jyrwa stated that, while talks were extensive, the association remains unsatisfied and will wait for a final decision pending a general body meeting.
The government has scheduled another broad stakeholder meeting for September 28, 2026, bringing together the Tourism Department, hotel owners, travel agencies, and others to discuss why local ML-registered vehicles are not being prioritized for tourist transport.

The government has directed taxi associations to propose suitable drop-off and parking hubs, such as the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), where non-local taxis can be halted.
A specialized committee headed by Commissioner of Transport Sanjay Goyal will evaluate these proposals and the feasibility of establishing designated hubs, aiming to let local drivers take over tourist transit within the state.
AKMTTA has not yet accepted these interim measures and will formally communicate its collective decision following the upcoming general body meeting.
