BJP Meghalaya Celebrates Victories in Assam & West Bengal, Targets 2028 Govt Formation

The party is now projecting the 2028 Assembly elections as the next decisive frontier in its Northeast consolidation strategy.

SHILLONG: Riding on the momentum of a landslide victory in neighboring Assam and a resounding performance in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set its sights on expanding its political footprint in Meghalaya. The party is now projecting the 2028 Assembly elections as the next decisive frontier in its Northeast consolidation strategy.

Following a commanding electoral narrative in the region—highlighted by Assam witnessing a decisive mandate under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma—the Meghalaya unit has significantly sharpened its organizational focus. Members of the state unit celebrated the recent triumphs by shouting slogans and distributing sweets, signaling a surge in cadre enthusiasm on the ground.

Senior BJP legislator and former Cabinet Minister AL Hek has reiterated that the party’s winning streak is destined to extend to Meghalaya. He positioned the upcoming Assembly polls as a definitive contest for political dominance, asserting that while the party expected success in West Bengal, the scale of the margin was a significant boost.

Hek confidently stated that the BJP is on track to form the government in Meghalaya by 2028. He further revealed that the political landscape is already shifting, noting that many sitting legislators, former MLAs, and Members of Autonomous District Councils (MDCs) have been in contact with the leadership. According to Hek, several senior leaders are expected to officially join the BJP in the coming days following recent high-level meetings.

In an official statement, BJP Meghalaya Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang paid tribute to Dr. Syamaprasad Mukherjee, stating that his vision for an inclusive India is being realized through these victories. He also honored the sacrifice of party workers in West Bengal who faced political violence, describing their efforts as the foundation for a “new dawn of progress.”

Kharkrang characterized the win in West Bengal as a victory of trust over fear and a total rejection of “appeasement, infiltration, and criminal politics.” He emphasized that the electorate has aligned itself with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” while criticizing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for its opposition to the SIR, which has been peacefully implemented in twelve other states.

The state unit also extended its congratulations to Assam for securing a third consecutive term, viewing the mandate as proof that good governance and people-friendly measures outweigh propaganda.

The BJP Meghalaya specifically highlighted the significant support received from the Christian community in Assam, expressing confidence that this trend will be mirrored in Meghalaya during the 2028 elections.

Additionally, the party took a swipe at the opposition, noting that this marks the ninety-ninth defeat for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, suggesting a need for serious introspection.

The release concluded with congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National President Nitin Nabin for their leadership in securing these electoral milestones.
