SHILLONG: Following the induction of Paul Lyngdoh as the twelfth minister in the MDA II cabinet, BJP State President Rickman Momin has announced that the party will hold discussions with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to secure another cabinet seat for BJP legislators, given the party’s current strength of 10 MLAs in the coalition.

The present MDA government comprises the NPP with 36 MLAs, BJP with 10, HSPDP with 2, and several independents.

Momin stated that while the party respects the Chief Minister’s prerogative on cabinet appointments, BJP members are keen for at least one more MLA to be inducted.

He added that the party will meet with its legislators before formally approaching the Chief Minister on the matter.

Momin clarified that input to the central leadership will be provided after internal consultations and that expectations for additional cabinet berths will depend on the evolving political situation.
