SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Laskein Circle, has called for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the appointment of a History teacher at Sawlyngdoh Higher Secondary School.
On Tuesday, KSU Laskein Circle President Leningrad Tariang led a delegation to meet the Director of School Education and Literacy, B.J. Kharshandi, MCS, to press for immediate action.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Tariang alleged that the school had advertised a vacancy for a History teacher and conducted interviews on December 15, 2025.
However, despite completing the recruitment process, no official result was declared.
Instead, the school allegedly appointed a candidate directly who did not meet the minimum percentage criteria specified in the advertisement.

Tariang stated that the Union received a complaint about the appointment nearly a year later.
After conducting its own inquiry, the KSU claims to have found irregularities in the selection process, prompting them to seek clarification from the Director.
According to Tariang, the Director acknowledged awareness of the issue and assured the Union that the matter would be examined immediately, emphasizing that the quality of education and the future of students must not be compromised.
The Director also assured the delegation that appointments must be made strictly on merit and in accordance with established norms.
The KSU further warned against any attempts by politicians or other influential individuals to interfere in teacher appointments by securing jobs for unqualified candidates.
The Union stated it would not tolerate such practices and pledged to continue monitoring the case until appropriate action is taken.
