SHILLONG: Meghalaya has reached a significant milestone in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of its electoral roll, with enumeration forms distributed to 98.17% of registered voters.
Of the total electorate of 23,49,645, field officials have delivered forms directly to 23,06,585 citizens. Digital integration has also accelerated, with 14,07,446 forms—62.15% of the electorate—already digitized.
The state-wide drive has seen exceptional performance in the hill districts. West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and South West Garo Hills have achieved 100% coverage in form distribution, closely followed by East Garo Hills at 99.93% and Ri-Bhoi at 99.80%.
In digitization, West Khasi Hills leads with 79.86% of forms uploaded, followed by South West Khasi Hills (78.51%), East Jaintia Hills (75.44%), West Garo Hills (74.03%), and South West Garo Hills (73.81%).
The intensive field verification has also helped purify the voter rolls. So far, 53,908 electors (2.29% of the state’s electorate) have been flagged under the Absentee, Shifted, Death, and Duplicate (ASDD) categories. This includes 32,382 deceased, 13,379 shifted, 5,795 absent, and 2,029 duplicate entries, while 323 individuals refused to accept enumeration forms.

Election authorities have assured that all flagged entries will undergo legal processing and verification under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, ensuring due process before any deletions or modifications.
With the deadline approaching, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has issued an urgent public notice: voters who do not submit their filled forms risk exclusion from the Draft Electoral Roll, set for publication at all polling stations on August 5, 2026.
Citizens are urged to submit completed forms to their local Booth Level Officers promptly, or digitally via the ECINET App or official portal (https://voters.eci.gov.in).
To ensure smooth execution, the Chief Electoral Officer has been conducting weekly video conferences with District Election Officers and other officials to resolve ground-level challenges.
In addition, the office has engaged with representatives of recognized National and State Political Parties.
The CEO commended the deployment of 892 Booth Level Agents across Meghalaya, noting their crucial role in assisting voters and ensuring a transparent, inclusive revision process before the final rolls are published.
