Shillong Police Crack Down on Tinted Glass Vehicles; Over 300 Seized

Regular monitoring and enforcement will continue, with particular focus during evening hours, to curb traffic violations, says SP Syiem.

SHILLONG: Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, Vivek Syiem, on Thursday said that the police have intensified enforcement against vehicles using tinted or black glasses following the issuance of a notification banning their use.

Speaking to the media at his office, SP Syiem said special enforcement drives are being conducted across Shillong and other parts of the district. Over the past few months, more than 300 vehicles have been seized for violating tinted-glass norms.

He informed that fines amounting to approximately ₹2.64 lakh have been collected so far. The SP added that regular monitoring and enforcement will continue, with particular focus during evening hours, to curb traffic violations.

Appealing for public cooperation, SP Syiem urged vehicle owners to strictly comply with the law and refrain from using tinted glasses. He also cautioned against the use of excessively bright headlights, stating that such lights inconvenience other road users and significantly increase the risk of accidents.

Highlighting other traffic-related concerns, the SP pointed to violations by two-wheeler riders, including over-speeding, riding without helmets, and driving on the wrong side of the road. He warned that these practices pose serious threats, especially to pedestrians. The police, he added, are closely monitoring traffic movement through CCTV cameras installed across the district, and strict action along with fines will be imposed on offenders.
