SHILLONG: Defending the state government’s rigorous approach toward infrastructure development, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has strongly asserted that the ambitious ropeway project is entirely legal and backed by all requisite clearances.
Amid brewing opposition and local controversy, Dhar stepped forward to reassure the public, maintaining that the government is closely reviewing the situation and anticipates a smooth resolution in the coming weeks.
Addressing the friction surrounding the project, the Deputy Chief Minister noted that public resistance is often a natural hurdle with large-scale ventures that simply takes time to navigate and explain to the community.
He emphasized that the administration deliberately avoided rushing the initiative, choosing instead to follow a meticulous, step-by-step process in strict adherence to the law—a stance previously clarified by the Chief Minister.
Dhar pointed out that every mandatory clearance from all relevant departments was secured well before any tenders were ever floated.
On the subject of administrative coordination, Dhar acknowledged the distinct working style of the district council while stressing the absolute necessity of mutual cooperation for public welfare.
Though minor questions and concerns have been raised by various quarters, the Deputy Chief Minister brushed aside fears of a permanent roadblock, affirming that the government and local bodies will work hand-in-hand to overcome the hurdles and successfully deliver the project.
