SHILLONG: Former Cabinet Minister and BJP MLA from Pynthorumkhrah constituency A.L. Hek has called for a comprehensive investigation into a threatening poster allegedly issued in the name of ISIS-K, which reportedly warned the Garo community in West Garo Hills to vacate the area before 2027.
Stating that the issue cannot be taken lightly, Hek said it was yet to be conclusively established whether the threat was genuine. However, he stressed that the State Government must conduct a detailed inquiry to ascertain the facts and identify those responsible for the incident.
Strongly condemning the alleged threat, Hek asserted that the Garo people are the indigenous inhabitants and rightful residents of Meghalaya, questioning any attempt to intimidate them or force them to leave their own land.
He further stated that if any extremist elements are found to be involved, they must be dealt with firmly and should not be allowed to enter or operate within the State. Hek urged both the State and Central governments to take the matter seriously and ensure the arrest of all those involved in such activities.
According to reports, a poster bearing the name of ISIS-K surfaced on Wednesday, allegedly threatening the Garo community residing in West Garo Hills and other areas, asking them to vacate their homes before 2027 or face consequences. The poster reportedly claimed ownership over the area.
The incident has triggered shock and fear among residents, particularly in Tura, raising serious concerns over public safety and internal security in the region.
