SHILLONG: In a fresh political development, a senior Congress leader from the Umsning Constituency resigned from the party on January 5. Rocky Marwein, the President of the Umsning Block Congress Committee, received the resignation letter, which formally conveyed his decision to step down as both a party member and office-bearer.
The leader has been identified as Efrangil Warlarpih, a long-serving and committed Congress functionary who also served as the President of the Umsning Assembly Youth Congress.
Warlarpih resigned from the party with immediate effect.
According to sources, his exit is likely to have an adverse impact on the Congress party’s organisational strength, not only in the Umsning Constituency but across the Ri-Bhoi district.
After resigning, Warlarpih extended his best wishes to the party and its leadership, and expressed satisfaction at completing his term as president of the Umsning Assembly Youth Congress.
Warlarpih has not yet disclosed his future political plans or the party he intends to join.
