SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, has clarified that the primary motive behind the brutal murder of Eilang Phawa by Kenedy Khongsit was a fit of extreme rage sparked by insulting remarks the victim allegedly made against him.

This grim revelation came to light today as the East Khasi Hills police escorted the accused to Nongrah Lummyrboh to conduct a ‘crime scene reconstruction.’

The exercise aimed to visually document the sequence of events and the manner in which the perpetrator carried out the heinous crime.

During the investigation, the SP dismissed initial speculations regarding the suspect’s mental state, confirming that a formal psychological assessment has proven Kenedy to be mentally stable and fully aware of his actions.

According to Kennedy’s confession made in police custody, he led Eilang to a secluded spot behind a building near a public toilet on the day of the incident. There, a heated argument ensued, during which Eilang reportedly used provocative and insulting language that infuriated him beyond control.

In the resulting violent outburst, Kenedy assaulted the victim, repeatedly striking her until her head collided with a concrete wall, causing fatal injuries. Upon realizing she had passed away, Kenedy admitted to stuffing her body into a plastic gunny bag to make it easier to transport and conceal the crime from public view.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been meticulously probing the case, originally apprehended Kenedy based on his suspected involvement in the murder of a 7-yr-old minor.

It was through the intensive interrogation regarding the child’s death that Kenedy eventually broke down and confessed to the separate murder of Eilang Phawa, allowing the police to link him to both high-profile crimes.

Today’s reconstruction was attended by the Forensic Crime Scene Unit and independent witnesses, where Kenedy demonstrated the exact steps he took during the commission of the crime.

The SIT is currently in the final stages of preparing a robust charge sheet to be submitted to the court shortly, ensuring that justice is served for both victims of these brutal acts.
