SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s political landscape is abuzz with fresh speculation over the possible entry of former Chief Minister and TMC leader Dr Mukul Sangma into the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), triggering intense discussions across party lines.
If the speculation turns out to be true, it would mark a dramatic political development, given that Dr Sangma and incumbent Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma have long been regarded as political rivals with sharply contrasting positions in state politics.
According to party sources, NPP National President and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is scheduled to travel to New Delhi, while NPP Meghalaya President and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong is already in the national capital. Sources further claim that Dr Mukul Sangma is also expected to arrive in New Delhi later tonight, although the official purpose of these visits has not been disclosed.
The timing of the movements has fuelled rumours that senior leaders from both sides could be holding discussions in Delhi, with political circles abuzz over the possibility of Dr Sangma’s induction into the ruling party.
Adding to the intrigue is the recent political move by Dr Sangma’s brother, Zenith Sangma, who joined the Congress just weeks ago. The development had once again drawn attention to Dr Mukul Sangma’s future political course, though he has so far remained tight-lipped about his next move.
With no official confirmation from any of the parties involved, the unfolding developments are being closely watched, as any shift could significantly reshape Meghalaya’s political equations ahead of the coming years.
