SHILLONG: BJP Meghalaya spokesperson M. Kharkrang has assured that the four demands raised by the eight former UDP MLAs who recently joined the BJP will be fulfilled, though the process may take time due to required government procedures and possible legal amendments.
Speaking to reporters, Kharkrang said the MLAs discussed their demands with the party’s central leadership in Delhi, which agreed in principle to address them.
However, he noted that implementation will occur step by step, as official notifications and amendments may be needed.

Kharkrang clarified that the cancellation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visits to Meghalaya was unrelated to the MLAs’ demands, stating the visits were scheduled for the Presentation of Colours ceremony for the Meghalaya Police, not for political negotiations.
Regarding a formal reception for the eight MLAs and their supporters, Kharkrang said the event, initially planned for October 5, has been postponed and is likely to be held in the second week of October, with a large venue expected due to anticipated high turnout.
