MAWKYRWAT: The body of 76-year-old Joit Kharlyngdoh, who had been missing for 16 days, was discovered in a forest area at Krem Motbih Pamske under Jakrem village, South West Khasi Hills district, on Monday.
Kharlyngdoh, a resident of Jakrem, had reportedly gone missing on the evening of July 4 and had not returned home since.
According to Rangbah Shnong Pascal Wahlang, villagers, in collaboration with the police, had been conducting search operations since her disappearance. On July 15, both villagers and police utilized trained sniffer dogs in their search, but were unsuccessful in locating her.
At around 2:30 pm on Monday, villagers who had gone into the forest to collect mushrooms discovered her body and immediately alerted village authorities and the police.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Further details are awaited.
