SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Shillong Mihngi Circle, has intensified its demand for accountability from the Urban Affairs Department over an allegedly unauthorized religious structure built inside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) complex at Mawdiangdiang.
The KSU claims the construction violates original land lease agreements and building bylaws, which only permit residential and office use.
Despite assurances from the Urban Affairs Director on August 11 to inspect the site and address concerns, the Union says there has been no further communication from the department.
Local police recently summoned KSU leaders over their protest, prompting the Union to question whether authorities are shielding legal breaches.

The KSU has formally demanded answers on whether any official inspections were conducted, what permissions were granted, if the local Dorbar Shnong was consulted, what penalties were enforced, and the reasons for continued administrative delays.
The Union warned of stringent, legally sound action if transparency and corrective measures are not forthcoming.
KSU reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on illegal construction and called on the Urban Affairs Department to act swiftly to restore public confidence and uphold statutory regulations.
