SHILLONG: Former and current leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Central Executive Committee (CEC) visited four detained union leaders at Shillong District Jail on August 25, 2026.
The leaders—President Raymond Kharjana, Vice President Pynkmen Sanmiet, General Secretary Rueben A. Najiar, and Jeremaiah Pohthmi—were arrested following the violence during the KSU’s ‘Black Flag Bike Rally’ on August 19.
The three top executives had been transferred to jails in the Garo Hills region on August 20 but were brought back to Shillong District Jail on August 25 to facilitate a more detailed investigation. Jeremaiah Pohthmi, arrested on August 24, was directly lodged in Shillong.

Speaking to reporters, former KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar explained that the visit was made after learning of the leaders’ return to Shillong.
Former General Secretary Donald Thabah confirmed that the detained leaders were in good health and had access to necessary medications.
Thabah added that the KSU CEC would decide on their next steps and whether to pursue further talks with the government in an upcoming meeting.
