SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has clarified that its ongoing protests are directed solely at the government and are not intended to target the people of Assam.
Addressing misconceptions, former KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar explained that opportunistic elements in Assam often create trouble for drivers and disrupt traffic during protest periods—even when no demonstrations are taking place.
Marngar criticized government tactics aimed at undermining the movement, describing official responses as calculated attempts to weaken their agitation.
He emphasized that the union’s demands are rooted in public welfare and address longstanding unresolved issues, with no personal gain for the KSU as an organization.

To caution against hasty accusations, KSU leaders pointed to a 2013 incident in which union members were initially blamed for unrest, but later investigations revealed that non-locals were responsible.
Marngar noted that miscreants continue to exploit tense situations, resulting in false allegations against KSU members.
Despite efforts to discredit or derail the movement, Marngar affirmed the union’s commitment to its cause.
He reiterated that the KSU’s agitation is based on reason, logic, and lawful persuasion—not force or violence—in seeking redress for public grievances.
