GUWAHATI/SHILLONG: In a major relief for interstate travelers, the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) has conditionally suspended its blockade against Assam-registered commercial tourist vehicles, granting a temporary grace period until September 10, 2026.
The pause comes after a direct appeal from the Meghalaya government to allow time for a high-level joint meeting with commercial driver leaders and senior Assam Transport Department officials.
AKMTTA President Ricaldinus Dohling made it clear that this is not a withdrawal of their core demands, warning that if the talks fail to produce concrete solutions, local taxi operators will immediately resume and intensify their agitation.
Following the announcement, law enforcement agencies in Ri-Bhoi District acted swiftly to secure key transit corridors, and police confirmed that Assam tourist taxis have resumed normal operations without interference.

The district administration has described the situation as calm and fully operational, reassuring Assam commuters and transport operators that they can travel without fear.
Officials also issued a stern warning against spreading unverified rumors about safety conditions in Meghalaya.
