SHILLONG: Acting Syiem, Paiem Alban Fedric Syiem, vacated the office of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem at Mawkhar today, August 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM, allowing Paiem Ainam Manik Syiem to reassume full charge as the regular Syiem.

This transition follows a Meghalaya High Court order issued earlier in the day, directing Paiem Alban to vacate the office within 48 hours.

The administrative standoff intensified after the Meghalaya High Court, on August 11, 2026, ruled in favor of Paiem Ainam Manik Syiem—reinstating his authority to the throne of Hima Mylliem.

However, when Paiem Ainam attempted to take charge and enter his official chamber on August 12, he was unable to do so, as Paiem Alban Fedric Syiem refused to relinquish the seat.

Appointed as Acting Syiem by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Paiem Alban argued that he had not yet received formal instructions or an official handover notification from the District Council.

Paiem Alban’s temporary appointment stemmed from an earlier action on May 22, 2026, when the KHADC suspended Syiem Ainam Manik Syiem over alleged non-payment of taxes due to the Council.

Refusing to accept the suspension, Paiem Ainam challenged the decision in the Meghalaya High Court, which ultimately ruled in his favor, overturning the Council’s order and reaffirming his legitimate position as Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
