SHILLONG: In a troubling incident, Shillong City Police have registered a criminal case against a local advocate after a female law intern alleged sexual harassment and molestation inside the advocate’s chamber at Goenka Building, Keating Road.
The episode has prompted immediate investigation by law enforcement authorities into the conduct of the legal professional.
According to City Superintendent of Police Dangsan Khyriem, the matter came to light on July 28, 2026, when the victim submitted a formal written complaint.
The complainant stated that she was sitting in the chamber with a co-intern when the advocate called her into his private office. Inside, the accused allegedly attempted to molest her. Despite resisting and pushing him away, she was asked to enter the room again, where he reportedly made a second attempt.
The situation escalated as the intern raised an alarm and called for help from her friends.

In her complaint, she further stated that the advocate subsequently tried to offer her money to suppress the matter and insisted that she meet him again the following Saturday.
Deeply distressed by the assault, the complainant left the premises and informed her friends before submitting a formal complaint to the police.
Based on her statement, a case has been registered at Sadar Police Station (Sadar PS Case No. 265/2026) under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering offenses related to assault or criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty and sexual harassment.
A police investigation into the matter is currently underway.
