SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Bar Association has formally approached the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, expressing grave concern over an incident in which an advocate accused of molesting a legal intern was publicly paraded through parts of Shillong.
The action follows the viral circulation of videos on social media showing the accused lawyer being forced to walk through the streets with his hands to his ears.
The incident stems from a criminal complaint lodged at Sadar Police Station by a legal intern.

In her First Information Report (FIR), the complainant detailed allegations of molestation against the advocate and further asserted that he had offered her financial compensation to suppress the matter and prevent her from filing a police report.
After the FIR was registered, members of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) intervened, resulting in the public parading of the accused through parts of the state capital.
Taking serious note of the vigilantism and the public humiliation of the accused advocate, representatives of the legal fraternity have brought the matter to the attention of the Chief Justice, highlighting their concerns regarding due process and the rule of law.
