SHILLONG: A local court on Friday disposed of the case against the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (JACCV) relating to the transport strike launched in 2021 over rising fuel prices.
Speaking to reporters, JACCV chairman Wandonbok Jyrwa said the organisation had finally secured justice after contesting the case through legal counsel for several years.
He said the strike in 2021 was launched following the steep rise in petrol prices, which had made it difficult for commercial vehicle operators to sustain their livelihood.
Jyrwa stated that transporters had suspended services for over two weeks while demanding a reduction in tax rates and a revision of passenger fares.
He also clarified that the decision to stop plying vehicles was voluntary and not forced upon drivers.
The JACCV chairman thanked the court and the presiding judge for disposing of the case.
