Major Fire Destroys Four Shops at Them Bijoy, Shillong

There were no human casualties or injuries reported, though the four shops suffered extensive property damage and loss of goods.

SHILLONG: A major fire broke out on the night of May 9th, destroying four shops located along the roadside in the Thembijoy area, situated near the Ajmira building.

The establishments gutted by the inferno include a fast-food joint, a hair salon, a dairy shop, and another retail outlet selling various general items.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 PM. As soon as the flames began to spread, individuals present at the dairy shop acted heroically by swiftly removing gas cylinders from inside the shops.

This timely intervention prevented a massive explosion that could have led to a far more catastrophic outcome.

Preliminary suspicions suggest that the fire originated in the fast-food shop, likely caused by an electrical short circuit.

Upon receiving the emergency call, two fire tenders from the Fire Service department rushed to the spot and immediately commenced operations to contain the blaze.

Due to the close proximity of the fire station, firefighters were able to bring the situation under control in a timely manner, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent shops.

According to reports gathered from the scene, there were no human casualties or injuries reported, though the four shops suffered extensive property damage and loss of goods.
