A total of 194 violations were detected, with fines amounting to ₹2,46,000 imposed on offenders in two days.

SHILLONG: In a concerted effort to strengthen traffic enforcement and improve road safety, East Khasi Hills Police conducted a special naka drive during the intervening night of April 25 and 26 across key areas of Shillong.

The operation, carried out under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, along with SP (City/Traffic) and Additional SP Traffic, covered three major sectors—Sadar, Laitumkhrah, and Lumdiengjri.

The late-night drive aimed to curb traffic violations and promote safer road practices through coordinated checking at multiple locations, particularly during night hours when such offences are more frequent.

Police focused on detecting cases of drunk driving, illegal vehicle modifications including exhaust systems and lights, use of black-tinted glasses, and verification of vehicle documents under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

During the enforcement drive, a total of 194 violations were detected, with fines amounting to ₹2,46,000 imposed on offenders.

More than 100 personnel were deployed for the operation, including In-Charges of Traffic Branches and Officers-in-Charge of various police stations. Each naka point was supervised by Gazetted Officers to ensure effective coordination and strict enforcement.

Officials stated that the drive reflects the continued commitment of the East Khasi Hills Police towards visible enforcement, aimed at deterring violations, enhancing compliance, and ensuring safer roads across the district.
